George G. Harrap
Recommended by James Morgan, Royal Corps of Signals, 4th Indian Division
The small volume contains 72 poems all composed by soldiers who were serving in Italy. They were chosen from 596 entries submitted to a poetry competition organised by the Eighth Army Educational Corps. The foreword was by Lt. Gen. Sir Oliver Leese and the introduction was by Siegfried Sassoon. The poems are amateur works and many reflect the nostalgia of the ordinary soldier for his homeland and for peace.
